The principal of Hazlewood School is Mr. Gary Smith. He is a 1964 graduate of Hackleburg High School in Marion County. Mr. Smith graduated from the University of North Alabama in 1970 with a Bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education. Mr. Smith started his teaching career in 1970 at Hackleburg High School. While at Hackleburg, he also became involved in coaching. He later worked as a teacher and coach at Wilson High School and Rogers High School both in Lauderdale County. In 1981, Mr. Smith earned a Master's degree in administration from the University of North Alabama and proceeded to serve as principal of Tharptown Jr. High School in Franklin County for five years. In 1999, Mr. Smith became principal of Hazlewood Elementary. He is now in his 12th year as prinicipal of Hazlewood School.
